So about when I turned 40 I started realizing a few things at the gym, My body was not recovering too quickly after my sparring sessions. I mean I was ok but if I sparred one of the youngsters and we went hard. Oh yea did I really feel it we are talking about me taking a day off, I would normally spar for two or three days then take a day off. My Results…

About a week and a half in I was feeling stronger much stronger, and my stomach started to lose a few inches. Now I did not take this to lose weight but my diet is not bad I have two cheat days. But I have really cut down on the bread no bagels what so ever, no Italian bread not even any toast. I did have some breaded chicken cutlets but yea I was still doing 45 min of walking a day. Gyms by me were closed due to covid-19 so there was no sparring for me neither or weights for that matter. It was all push ups and walking.

But I still got results and pretty good results too. The fat I gained came right off my stomach is down but my weight is the same so yea its working. I have more energy and I get more things done so again this product does its job well.

Now again I have to emphasize that this review is based on my own personal results. Yours many vary depending on your body and dies you cant eat Bacon Cheeseburgers twice a day and expect to lose 30 pounds. Supplements are called supplements for a reason.. They are supplemental meaning you also have to put in the work as well.

Small Gyms Covid 19 Regulations

Small Gym Openings Post COVID 19…

Yesterday I was greeted by a Facebook post from the main gym I frequent, Canino’s Karate and Boxing in Dania Beach Florida. For those that do not know that Bonnie Canino is the world’s Women’s Featherweight Kickboxing and Boxing Champion from the 90s and early 2000s. I have been under her instruction on and off since the 90s. She is my 3rd and last Master.

And in her Facebook post, she said she was going to be reopening but with a lot of changes to be COVID 19 Compliant. There will be a membership price change, and a requirement for face masks and that is ok and I get that. But basically the group classes that are her bread and butter will be no longer. And sadly I get that too but again as I said those group classes are what has helped her gym survive. Now OK eventually we will be back to normal but when? Can her gym survive when there are no group classes, no one over 10 people allowed including trainers, and the price increase? And now you just can’t simply walk in there and train you have to set up an appointment. And if you miss your appointment you have to wait two weeks.

Covid 19 Gym Rules

Again I am not mad nor am I complaining I am just starting on how hard it will be for small gyms like her’s to stay afloat with all that in place. Like me, I have a business to run as the owner of a Non Profit The JRX Foundation that is on the road for days, weeks, and even months. It was convenient for me just to walk in there whenever I could to catch a few classes for the week then be on my merry way. Now sadly I just can’t I have people that rely on my charity as well. But Bonnie has run a gym since the late 70s and she has done it amazingly and she did what she had to do which is set up her business module to say in business.

To be honest, it’s better for me to just make my own place and train like I did when I was in my teens except I have 32 years of knowledge behind me. So I am good either way but I will be missing the gym togetherness we are a family there. I have watched many young fighters grow and develop into great young men and women. I’m not saying it’s over but it’s definitely not going to be the same for a very long while.

And basically now with all the YouTube channels that tell people how to work out and the availability of equipment nowadays who really needs a gym.

But to be perfectly clear if you want to do and Boxing, Kickboxing or Martial Arts you NEED sparring you do and sadly if you attend a fighting gym you will have to wear a mask that is if they are even going to have sparring. Now I can get away with it because I know how to breathe during sparring. But what if you are first starting out and you get winded that mask is going to have to come off at some point in order for you to catch your breath. Trust me on this because when I first started to use a mouthpiece it was hard as all hell to breathe. And then add being under pressure of you getting your ass kicked it’s even harder. So I am really interested to see how that works out.

Will the Bigger Gyms Survive?

I don’t know I mean how do you run a 50,000 square ft gym if you can only have a certain amount of people in it. I mean my regular gym workouts were at least an hour and a half. 20 min for weights and the rest for the treadmill so I mean for some people it is longer maybe? I dunno I am just spitballing here. And I am guessing they have to raise their rates too and many have been pretty expensive well in my own opinion anyway. And I imagine that the people working out would feel kind of rushed too right, you are going to have people waiting to go in I don’t know about you but I’m not going to pay money a month to wait when I can again have my own place in my apartment for nothing. Play my own music and watch my own TV while on my treadmill and I will not have to drive to get there so there goes any gas I might use too.

Now…

I am writing this post prematurely meaning it is May 19 so who knows what is going to happen between writing this blog post and you finding and reading it. Not to mention what state you are in, because it is to my understanding that different states are have their own set of rules and regulations so for right know I can only go by what my main gym has decided in South Florida.

Life is changing before we know it and the scary part is who knows what its going to be like in the end..

First and foremost this video is for the ones who are just starting out on their fat burning journey. Losing weight can be tough for anybody, especially when you just do not know what to do.

Then you see all these ads for supplements that are supposed to help you. but how do you take them right? When I started I had no idea whatsoever how to diet and exercise. So this video is for beginners and those who are just curious about how to take them.

I mean when I first entered a gym it was 1990 I was fresh outta High School and I wanted to get big. The problem was I did not know how my very first day I tried to bench 100 pounds and yea I barely did it lol. Let’s just say the weights at the gym were very different than the ones at home Very Different.

I mean I really didn’t even have a workout program our routine, so my next step was to get some muscle magazines like Muscle & Fitness and Flex. They helped me for the most part and I was getting stronger and even a tad bigger I thought to myself ok I got that down but how do I get abs like the guys in the magazines.

Ok so I was a nieve 18-year old I heard of steroids but the guys in these books no way would they ever use them lol. Yea that is exactly what I thought it really was. Again I just graduated High School and was just learning about life itself Hell I was still getting used to not going to school.

So I went down to the local health food store, it was 1990 there were not many supplement stores around except for GNC and that was even 20 min away and the cashier wasn’t as cute. So I bought my first bottle of Razor Cuts and I was sooo excited one bottle was going to give me my six-pack abs.

Yea I uh took the pills the way the directions told me to, and I worked out 3 to 4 days a week. And after one month I gained 5 pounds what the hell right. So I go back to the store and said I gained weight rather than lost weight. Then she askes hows your diet? Diet? I asked she said yea what are your eating?

Uh, food? She chuckles and asks are you eating any salads? Fruits and vegetables? What is my carb and protein intake? Whoa, Whoa Whoa sweetheart slowdown what are you talking about?

She then says I have to reduce my calorie intake and regulate my protein and carbs. And I need to have a fat-burning workout and even add this thing called cardio. Wow, now my mind was blown I bought a fresh bottle of Razor Cuts and the new issue of Flex and off I went with my new strategy and another month later I am down 8 pounds but now I had a thing called definition!

The rest is history and then I found out a few weeks later she had a boyfriend that lived in Morristown but we still remained friends ahh to be young again lol…

Now, What did we learn…

We learned that many fat burners work and that they are supplemental. Meaning just that they help us burn the fat. We still need a diet and exercise program to help them work. Now we are allowed cheat days but only one or two days a week any more than that well what can I say you might be lean but did you achieve your goal?

Listen I have had cheat days turn into cheat weeks even cheat months but I always got back on track eventually in end we are all only human.

Before I say anything there are literally thousands of people out there that are fitness experts hell maybe even hundreds of thousands. Many even have T.V. shows or YouTube channels with millions of subscribers and more power to them whatever floats their boats I wish them well. But its thousands of people with thousands of opinions.

Who is right who is wrong ? Who actually knows everyone is different, some diets and supplements work for many and many people it does not then they resort to other means like surgery and fad diets up to starvation.

I started working out at the age if 16 in 1986 with a bench and weights I pulled outta the garbage one evening. And my journey started in a basement somewhere in Jersey. By 1990 after graduation in 1989, I joined a gym and took up Kickboxing and Shotokan Karate later changing my style to Kung Fu which is another story.

But I was working two jobs and was buying every bodybuilding magazine I could find. Muscle and Fitness, Musclemag International, Flex, and many others. I wanted to be big like the guys in the books like Rich Gaspari, Dorian Yates, and many many others. I was hooked not to mention this was the age of Jean Claude Van Damme and my hero Bolo Yeung.

I spent hundreds of dollars on supplements and I lived for my workouts either the weights or the heavy bag. I would only see my friends maybe twice a week Saturday an Sunday. They called me the weekend friend, I lived either at work or at the gym.

Why…

Let’s go years farther back in the early 1980s ok 1979 to be exact I just started eating and had no desire for exercise. Not to mention I am Sicilian/Irish all we did was eat, we loved to eat we loved out Pasta, Bread, and Potatoes. Then my mom loved to bake so there was that I was 8 an 9 years old and food was always in reach. By 1984 I had really gotten heavy they used to tease me in Jersey when I had to go to South Florida for one year for 8th grade, oh man and I had a new school to boot.

So here I am 14 years old 100 pounds overweight, braces, and attended a school in a place where even the kids my age were tan and had six-pack abs. I was so embarrassed even the girl I had a crush on I overheard her say that I had bigger tits than she did I was so crushed lol it was bad.

But that wasn’t the breaking point my mom wanted me to go into a store with 4 good looking girls around my age hanging out in front and I did not want to go in because I was embarrassed at the way I looked. I actually cried and refused to get out my mom had to send my sister in.

About two months after my mom enrolled me in this new program called Nutrisystem. ( This is in no way an endorsement for them) It was this fabulous new meal and exercise program. Long story short I lost 40 pounds by the time I went back to Jersey to start my freshman year in High School.

But that is not all I gained a knowledge those few months, not to mention I was still a kid so I was going to do kid things. Drink Slurpees, eat Italian Hot Dogs at Dickie Dees on Bloomfield ave in Newark with my cousin so from the years of 1985 to 1989 my weight went up and down. When I felt that I was gaining weight I adjusted my diet. But I had to want to lose weight in order to make it work.

In other words Mc Donalds with Apple Pie and a soda. Or Pizza with water and eating once or twice a day, not the best way but it worked lol I would have a yogurt or two for lunch and I was good.

1990 till Present…

Now for the next 30 years would be a wild ride for me, from bodybuilding to having a semi Kickboxing and Boxing career. I fully moved to South Florida in 1994.

I must have tried every supplement I saw in the books or heard about in the gym. I even took steroids for 10 years on and off, I have played with many workout routines to either gain weight or shed weight.

There were three times where life turned for me and I had very long times where I did not work out at all resulting in massive weight gain.

There were even times where I just got plain lazy or I worked so much that there were not enough hours in a day to fit in a workout. Hell, when FedEx express let me go after 21 years and worked at a bar as a bouncer and a cook there ya go making 9 dollars an hour and 12 hours a day just to make ends meet. Eating fried bar food because you are stuck at work all night till 8 in the morning.

Why the long story? and Why even make this post?

I am here to tell you that not every supplement will work, not every workout routine will work for you. You will have ups and downs in weight and how you feel.

Believe it or, not your personal life affects your workouts your progress, and even how you approach your goals. There were many times I was working out just to maintain but my gut would still be there because I was not taking my diet and my training seriously.

And after watching myself spar in the mirror and looking at certain videos and pictures of me I decided that I was sick and tired of having that gut. Then I finally adjusted my diet and hitting it harder in the gym.

The products you see us review and post on this blog are just suggestions. Now I am also rooting for you myself. Because I am just like you. I have goals and at 48 years old I have to keep in shape and at least try to not get to outta shape. I love training I love Kickboxing and I love Boxing And I am not ready to stop just yet.

I know what it’s like to want to lose weight, feel better about myself, or even try something new and be good at it. There was a time where my goals were everything and I missed out on a lot as well.

Before I End This…

I want to be clear to say that you can do whatever you want in this lifetime. But you have to want it. And that is not a bad thing we all get sucked up into things.

Working out and Losing weight is trial and error and you need that in order to learn how your body works. And most important you pay attention to your body. And whatever supplement you take you do what the directions tell you. I am lucky to be alive for the times in my 20s where I pushed the envelope where I didn’t need to. Yea that was a hospital visit or two.

Just don’t lose sight of your goals but also do not lose sight of life itself, Its a balance of both. It’s ok to cheat on your diet and its ok to take a day or two off from the gym that’s all I am saying..
